Galápagos – Classic Hobo
A custom bag celebrating the Galápagos Islands, an archipelago of volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean. The islands are known for their large number of endemic species and were studied by Charles Darwin. His observations and collections contributed to the theory of evolution through natural selection.
This bag is an attempt to depict as many of those incredible species on one bag. Really an impossible task so I had to choose the heavy hitters: Blue-footed Boobies, Albatross, Pelicans, Giant Tortoises, Marine Iguanas, Sally Lightfoot Crabs, Butterflies, Seals, Sea Lions, Penguins, Dolphins, Whale Sharks, Humpback Whales, Finches, Flamingos, Rays, Tropical Fish, Yellow Cordia and of course some Ferns.
For this bag I also did a different type of dye job where I combined two background colours to create a landscape. Under the flap there is a map of the Galapagos and the bottom/sides of the bag is an underwater scene.
There is also an inside pocket on this bag with a beautiful inscription to my client’s wife. Top secret for now so you’ll just have to imagine it.
This was a really fun project. I love when a custom bag pushes into new terrain.
